This is a minor release:

  • Links now open in a new tab by default (concern header, title and description). This affect new and existing stories. To open a link in the same tab as previously, use <a target="_self" href="mywebsite">mylink</a>
  • Importing images from Facebook has been deprecated. Existing stories will continue to work but it's not possible to add new images from Facebook. More details on the StoryMaps FAQ
  • Fixed application that doesn't load when tour data are stored in specific Feature Service
  • Fixed formatting cannot be applied to non-English characters in the description panel

This release contains two major new features plus many small enhancements and fixes for both the viewer and builder.

Major new features:

  • Added autoplay mode. Autoplay mode is useful if you want to show a story map on a display monitor such as a kiosk in a visitor center, an exhibit, or in an operations center. In autoplay mode the story advances automatically creating a visually interesting and changing display.
  • Improved how the story looks when shared on social media. The story will now use the application item's thumbnail, title, and summary. Builder will now warn the author when item title is not identical to the story title (if the story is public). See Story Maps website FAQ for more details.

Viewer enhancements:

  • Improved keyboard navigation when a story is embedded in another website by focusing out of the story after the last element
  • Improved the error message when the story can not be viewed at current resolution (#49)

Downloadable version:

  • Added configuration for utility services like Geocoder in app/maptour-config.js
  • Added support for configuring proxy rules in app/maptour-config.js
  • Improved the error message when the application ID is not configured

Builder enhancements:

  • Added support of the custom basemap group that can be configured in ArcGIS Online to the basemap gallery, thanks to @regan-sarwas with https://github.com/Esri/map-tour-storytelling-template-js/pull/51/commits
  • Simplified the dialog that appear after the story is saved for first time or shared by removing documentation in favor of a link to My Stories
  • Modified media import dialog to not be sensible to extra white spaces before/after user name

Viewer fixes:

  • Fixed issue with story at world scales where the tooltip could be displayed over a gray map (removed wrap around the world)
  • Fixed the default title for Map Tour created from sharing a web map to use the given app title and not the web map title

Builder fixes:

  • Fixed an issue with the basemap gallery where switching to a vector layer would corrupt the web map
  • Fixed an issue preventing builder from opening in Internet Explorer 9
  • Prevented erase symbol (x) from appearing on some text inputs in Internet Explorer 11

  • New shortcut, you can now advance through a Map Tour by clicking or tapping the image

  • Added support for "*" as authorizedOwner in index.html, which allows use of any appid through the URL

Builder enhancements:

  • When creating a Tour from an existing map, the map name is used to pre-populate the Feature Service name

Viewer fixes:

  • Fixed an issue on Chrome where the browser can freeze depending on the map scale

Builder fixes:

  • Fixed issue #47, when sequentially updating multiple image on an existing tour, the resulting image for the point may be incorrect
  • Fixed a stability issue with the address search in the geotagging map, in some cases the marker would not be present after a successful search
  • Fixed an issue in Internet Explorer 10 in the geotag dialog, the marker were not positioned correctly
  • Fixed an issue in Microsoft Edge preventing point location editing through the map

  • Enabled spell check on all text inputs. The spell check is supported on most browser including Internet Explorer 10, quality varies depending on browser

Viewer fixes:

  • Fixed an issue preventing thumbnails to appear in the carousel on Internet Explorer 11 until user navigated the tour
  • Fixed an issue preventing to use Feature service that have an FID field instead of an Object-ID field as the tour data source
  • Fixed the mobile view carousel background. Depending on the theme the background color of the arrows were not matching rest of the carousel.

Builder fixes:

  • Fixed an issue preventing changes to be persisted when tour data were saved as a Feature Collection item #45

This maintenance release fix one major issue in builder mode: #35 - Impossible to save a tour containing a link in point title/description when using a Feature Service.

There is no need to upgrade existing application if you are not affected by that specific issue. The patch is planned for deployment to ArcGIS Online today.
