With the addition of new group annotations, version 1.9 is the first release to support annotation schema version 2. It is backward compatible with the old schema. Read about the new schema here. Note that the REST API structure has also changed to accommodate the new annotation type.
A static build of ffmpeg now ships with DIVE Desktop for all platforms, so installing this extra dependency is no longer required.
Two major features were written concurrently: activity groups and multicam annotation. We skipped an official 1.8 release because it was used for beta releases of multicam. A later release of 1.9.X will include the multicam annotation features, but if you need those now, choose the newest 1.8 beta.
