GSoC 2017 Accepted Proposals

Contains information about accepted GSoC 2017 Projects across various organizations along with the proposals.

This year 1,318 out of 5,500 students were accepted in Google Summer of Code, 2017. A comprehensive list of the projects along with brief summary could be found here.

While the project list is publically available, the proposals which the students sent to their respective communities for those projects aren't all publically available, or if they are, there is no central repository of the same. The aim of this repository is to collect as many proposals as possible at a single place and hence make it reachable to everyone.

The need to create this repository came when their was a discussion being held in the GSoC group and everyone was introducing themselves along with their project, but it was really hard to catch up and find something. Also this should come in handy to future GSoC participants as they can find everything at one place.

Basic Architecture

The main repository will include sub-directories, each directory corresponding to an organization. If your organization directory already exists, upload your proposal and summary in that directory, else please create the same.

In each organization directory their will be sub-directories, each directory corresponding to a project. Please name your project directory with your project title and try to keep it short and explanatory.

Each project directory will have minimum of two file - one readme.md containing information such as student description, project description, blog links, project links, repository link et cetera and the other - the proposal itself.

Basic directory tree would look like :

├───GSoC-2017-Accepted-Proposals
│   └───{Your Organization Name}
│       └───{Your Project Name}
│   └───CCExtractor
│ └───CCAligner - Word by Word Audio Subtitle Sync

(If you have a better architecture or arrangement idea - feel free to post an issue / send a PR).

How to submit a proposal?

Submitting a proposal is easy. Simply follow the listed steps and you should be good to go.

  1. Fork this repository (or you may click edit icon from Github Web).

  2. Search for your organization's directory. If the directory doesn't exist, please create it.

  3. Open your organization's directory and create a directory with your project name.

  4. In your project directory create/upload two files - readme.md and your project proposal which you submitted. (You may optionally use the template I have provided below for your readme.md file.)

  5. Commit changes and send a PR. I'll add it! :)

You may share your proposal through this repository.

What should I write in readme.md?

This is the file that will be displayed when someone open's your project directory. You are free to choose what content you want to display. I am providing a general template which may be followed in case you don't want to spend a lot of time thinking about it.

Can I remove my personal details from the proposal before uploading it?

Yes, definitely. I would rather recommend removing all the information that you think are sensitive.

Readme.md template.

I am placing the template in the main directory. Simply rename this file and edit it. Here's the direct link.

Note:

The proposals in this repository are submitted by the student's themselves and are on their sole discretion.
