COVID 19 pandemic - build software that drive social impact
That last month has been a strange one in our world. It seems the entire world is coming together to try and tackle the COVID 19 outbreak. In this month's challenge, we are brinigng together all the brains in the ZTM community to see if we can build something useful to tackle this worldwide problem!
You can work on a project individually or in a group and you can use the below free APIs and data sources to try and tackle a problem of your choice:
--> COVID 19 Free APIs: this one or this other one
--> COVID 19 Free Dataset: here
Please Use the #coding-challenge channel on Discord to discuss and share your work or if you would like to look for people to work with on a project. At the end of the challenge, I will compile everyone's submitted websites/projects/code on here to showcase what the ZTM community has built.
It is up to you what kind of project you want to build and with how many people. The key is that you are able to finish it all by the deadline for submission: April 30th, 2020.
Some ideas include:
1. Health: Address and scale a range of health initiatives, including preventative/hygiene behaviors (especially for at-risk countries and populations), supporting frontline health workers, scaling telemedicine, contact tracing/containment strategies, treatment and diagnosis development.
2. Vulnerable Populations: Problems faced by the groups of people who are disproportionately affected by the various health, economic, and social issues related to the COVID outbreak around the world, such as those with underlying health conditions or a thin social safety net.
3. Businesses: The set of problems that businesses are facing to stay afloat, collaborate effectively, and move parts of their business online.
4. Community: Promoting connection to friends, family, and neighbors to combat social isolation and the digitizing of public services for local governments.
5. Education: Alternative learning environments and tools for students, teachers, and entire school systems. (*credit to https://covid-global-hackathon.devpost.com/)
Check out all of the submissions below! Well done everyone!
You have until April 30th at 11:59pm EST to submit your project (using Github. If you don't know how to do that, check out the lecture in the Git + Github section of the course). You will have to submit the link to the #coding-challenge Discord group with the following message: -challenge URL LINK TO YOUR ENTRY" . The bot will listen for the command and will reply with "thanks for your submission" if it succeeded.
Use whatever tools you have as developers (google, friends, Discord, programming buddy etc...) but I will not be offering any help with this challenge. Just like a developer, you must solve a problem and build something that will be challenging. Nobody will hold your hand during the job so we want to experience that by figuring it all out on your own with your team.
We highly recommend checking out the back catalogue of coding challenges. With varying levels of complexity there is something to test and push every skill level.
Please note: As with all my challenges there is zero benefit or monetary gain I receive from it. This is just my way of thanking my students and making sure that you are able to continue gaining valuable knowledge outside of just my videos. It would mean a lot to me if you are able to rate my course...5 star reviews make my day :)
