  For a card to be included, it must be reasonably easy to memorise. This excludes places with very long or unpronounceable names, or with little geographical and historical significance. The "country information" field may be used to provide interesting facts to help with memorisation.

This constitutes the initial release. The version number starts at v2.0 to differentiate this deck from its predecessor: Ultimate Geography v1.0. This version brings the following list of changes:

Structural changes

• rename note type to "Ultimate Geography" to avoid conflicts with other decks
• rename and reorder fields (country > capital > flag > map) and note templates
• remove inconsistent bolding of country names
• strip HTML from all fields: <span>, <i>, etc. (except <img /> of course)
• remove pronunciation hints
• improve design of cards
• add three new fields and update note templates to display them when relevant:
  • "Country info" (typically for alternative names or governance information) - when provided, shown on the front side of "Country > Capital" cards and on the back side of the other cards
  • "Capital info" (typically for countries with multiple capitals) - when provided, shown on the back side of "Country > Capital" cards
  • "Capital hint" (typically for capitals that share the same name) - when provided, shown on the front side of "Capital > Country" cards
• move content other than country name out of "Country" field and into the new "Country info" field
• replace flag images with SVG versions from Wikipedia
• optimise all SVG images to reduce file size
• rename all images to ease maintenance and avoid conflicts with other decks (ug- prefix)
• add subtle drop-shadow to flags for white areas to stand out
• improve tags to avoid conflicts with other decks and ease creation of filtered decks:
  • prefix all tags with UG:: to avoid conflicts and work with the Hierarchical Tags add-on
  • remove tags of the form <Continent>_(Capitals|Flags|Maps), as the card filter can easily be used instead: card:"Flag > Country" or card:3
  • add tag UG::Sovereign_State to countries listed on Wikipedia's list of sovereign states
  • add tags for continents: Africa, America, Asia, Europe, Oceania
  • add tags for various world regions and country groups: North & Central America, South America, Caribbean, Middle East, Southeast Asia, European Union

• edit card "The Balkan Peninsula (The Balkans)":
  • previous map was neither representative of the geographic peninsula nor of the geopolitical region
  • new map is from Wikimedia and shows both areas
  • rename card to "Balkan Peninsula" for clarity, and add note mentioning the Balkans as in the geopolitical region
• remove flag of Northern Ireland due to its contentious nature
• remove unofficial flags of French overseas departments (French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Martinique)
• remove card "Manchuria" due to its map showing the region that falls entirely within China, which is now usually referred to as Northeast China (cf. Manchuria on Wikipedia)
• remove card "Siberia" due to the inaccuracy of its map and ambiguous definition of the region (cf. Siberia on Wikipedia)
• removed card "Tahiti" due to the poor quality of its map and the fact that it is an island of the larger territory of "French Polynesia" (which has its own card)
