The LXQt team announces the release of LXQt 2.0.0, the Lightweight Qt Desktop Environment.

Highlights

General

• LXQt 2.0.0 is based on Qt ≥ 6.6. For supporting styling and LXQt File Dialog with Qt5-based apps, libqtxdg-3.12.0, lxqt-qtplugin-1.4.1 and libfm-qt-1.4.0 can be installed alongside their Qt6-based versions in LXQt 2.0.0.
• PCManFM-Qt's desktop module, LXQt Runner and LXQt Desktop Notifications are completely ready to be used under Wayland compositors which support the "layer shell protocol", like LabWC, Wayfire, kwin_wayland, Hyprland, Sway,…
• Wayland will be the main target for LXQt 2.1.0, as Qt6 was for LXQt 2.0.0. The components which are not ready for Wayland yet include ScreenGrab, LXQt Global Shortcuts, LXQt Panel's task-bar and keyboard indicator (but LXQt Panel can be used under Wayland without those plugins), some input settings, and settings of monitor, power button, and screen locker. However, most Wayland compositors have tools that can be used instead of them, such that an LXQt-Wayland session is already possible for advanced users.
• LXQt Panel has a new default application menu called Fancy Menu, featuring "Favorites", "All Applications", and an improved search.
• QTerminal is the only app whose Qt6 port will be released separately -- complications were encountered due to the removal of legacy encodings in Qt6. Until then, its Qt5 version 1.4.0 could be used.

NOTE for Distros: For having Qt5 styling and Qt5 file dialog with LXQt 2.0.0, the installable packages of Qt5-based lxqt-build-tools, libqtxdg, lxqt-qtplugin and libfm-qt may need to be renamed, such that they can be installed in parallel with their Qt6 versions. Also, the point release of the Qt5-based lxqt-qtplugin-1.4.1 is needed for a correct Qt5 font setting (see its release note).

LibFM-Qt / PCManFM-Qt

• The desktop module is completely ready for Wayland, thanks to layer-shell-qt6. Now, PCManFM-Qt can give you a real desktop not only with desktop-agnostic X11 windows managers, but also with Wayland compositors which implement "layer shell protocol", like those based on wlroots or KWin. Also, see Using Desktop under Wayland in Wiki.
• The MIME types of LXQt Archiver and Arqiver are updated in LibFM-Qt.
• Some menu icons are added.

LXQt Panel

• Fancy Menu is added as the new default application menu. (The old menu is kept, but it is not the default menu anymore.)
• Wayland support is added for positioning the panel by using layer shell.
• Miscellaneous fixes.

General

• LXQt 1.4.0 is based on Qt 5.15, the last LTS version of Qt5. If everything goes as planned, this is the last Qt5-based release -- we'll do our best to port the next release to Qt6, even if we'll have to delay it.
• lxqt-menu-data is released to replace lxmenu-data anywhere needed.
• In LXQt's file manager and its library, the user can now add the command for the default terminal, the state of split view is considered on restoring tabs of the last window, an SVG icon is added for PCManFM-Qt, password and anonymity settings of the mount dialog are remembered, and several fixes and enhancements are made to the codes.
• QTerminal supports audible bell as an option. Also, Putty-style mouse button swap is supported, and Falcon color scheme is added.
• LXQt's image viewer has a minimal support for color spaces now.

NOTE: There are no new releases of lxqt-build-tools and lxqt-themes because they haven't changed since their last releases. Of course, the former is essential to building LXQt 1.4.0.

• The search dialog entries are equipped with search history. The maximum number of history items can be set in Preferences → Advanced → Search.

The LXQt team announces the release of LXQt 1.1.0, the Lightweight Qt Desktop Environment.

Highlights

General

• LXQt 1.1.0 depends on Qt 5.15, the last LTS version of Qt5. (Porting to Qt6 was started, but it needed a stable version of KF6.)
• LXQt's file manager now supports the file manager DBus interface, which is used by some apps (like Firefox and Chromium) that call the default file manager to show files inside folders or do other jobs. Also, the "Recent Files" item is added to the File menu. As usual, problems are fixed and functionalities are improved.
• The new component xdg-desktop-portal-lxqt is added to LXQt, as a backend implementation for xdg-desktop-portal. When it is installed, some non-Qt apps like Firefox can be set up to use LXQt file dialog.
• LXQt themes are improved. A new theme and several wallpapers are added. Also, matching Qt palettes are added for a fairly uniform look and feel with Qt widget styles like Fusion. They can be found and applied in LXQt Appearance Configuration → Widget Style → Qt Palette.
• The bookmark functionality is improved a lot in QTerminal and several (old) issues in the drop-down mode are fixed.
• In LXQt Panel, the legacy tray icons are now shown inside Status Notifier when the System Tray plugin is enabled. That removes the problem that the legacy System Tray had with auto-hiding panels.
• Tray icons with the charge percentage inside them are added to LXQt Power Manager.
• A simple option is added to LXQt Session Settings for the global screen scaling.

• org.freedesktop.FileManager1 is implemented, to be used by apps like Firefox and Chromium for calling PCManFM-Qt.

• An issue is fixed in positioning of sticky items on Desktop.
• DND and keyboard navigation are fixed on RTL desktops.

• LXQt terminates all child processes on exiting the session. This allows non-LXQt apps to save their last settings at the session end and also prevents rare exit crashes in some of them.
• Creation time is fully supported by the file manager.
• SVG icon sets are handled more efficiently and independently.
• LXQt Power Manager has separate idle watchers for AC and battery and also an option to disable them when the active window is fullscreen.
